About Myself
My name is Henry Tsui. I am a Product Design student at Hong Kong Design Institute and Birmingham City University. I always dreamed of becoming a Product Designer. During my life in higher education, I take different chances to learn and gain experience in various types of creation and design.
I have a consuming passion for product design. My career goal is to design simple, beautiful, and useful products to facilitate people's daily life. I am also good at 3D modeling. I always make some interesting models and share them online. I hope people can give me comments so that I can improve my design.
Moreover, I have joined numerous design competitions to gain experience. I am a final year student and ready for my job seeking. I realized that if I want to take a career path in creation, I should try more things and get in touch with different designs.
REFLECTIVE LIFELONG LEARNER
In the summer of 2020, I worked in a media production studio. My job is to create different promotional materials for the company and prepare movie props for the production team. As a professional product design team, we need to know how to promote our brand and products. The job allowed me to apply the knowledge learned in school. I used different computer software to create promotional items and basic video production. Those working experiences help me develop skills in product design and advertising design in the future.
In the future, there will be many challenges in the workplace. I will take on the challenges and solve them with my previous experiences. During the summer internship, I learned that good communication is essential for a team. We may have different friction with each other, but we need to care about and support each other.
RESPONSE DIAGRAM
These diagrams represent my design in my product design class. There is a project we need to find a design master to research his designs and products. Then, Naoto Fukasawa became my favorite designer. I very much agree with his design method and philosophy. His quote stuck out to me because I had never seen a definition like this of what design.
So, I try to design different products and furniture that can connect humans and the environment. Many of my designs were inspired by Fukasawa. All of them are very simple and Minimalist style. In the future, I will keep referring to his design philosophy to create a more interesting products.
SELF-DIRECTED LIFELONG LEARNER
I want to be a freelance designer in my leisure time. It is because I love the design and want to have more opportunities to create more products. I want to understand the operation of the industry as soon as possible. Also, I think I need to improve my level by accumulating different majors.
So, I set a target that each month I should design a product that can be sold. Every weekend, I try to watch different online teaching to learn more skills for design, such as 3D modeling, 3D printing, and graphic design. The purpose is to make a higher-level product. The time management is that each product takes 2 weeks for design and 2 weeks for 3D modeling.
